TAMPA, FL — A new restaurant concept from Proper House Group and Chef Ferrell Alvarez is coming to Tampa Water Street. Ash will serve Italian-inspired cuisine and feature a spacious outdoor patio.
The team also supports the acclaimed Rooster & the Till restaurant in Seminole Heights, which recently won a Michelin Bib Gourmand award.
Ash is scheduled to open on the ground floor of Asher, the newest residential development in the area, in spring 2023, along with Wagamama and Synovus, according to Water Street Tampa developer Strategic Property Partners LLC.
“Proper House Group and Chef Ferrell Alvarez are industry veterans with a proven track record,” said SPP Chief Portfolio Officer Lee Schaffler. “Their concepts in Sparkman Wharf and Seminole Heights have been very successful, so we look forward to seeing them in the Tampa Water Street neighborhood becoming the city’s premier dining destination.”
Ash has 2,400 square feet of indoor dining space and 1,000 square feet of outdoor dining space, serving lunch and dinner 7 days a week, with brunch in the future. The menu will offer focused and interesting cuisine with an Italian twist.
Co-owned by 2017 James Beard Foundation semifinalist Chef Ferrell Alvarez; business partner and restaurateur Ty Rodriguez; Proper House Group and entrepreneur Chon Nguyen is a Tampa-based hospitality group known for its operations in Tampa Bay Famous for the well-known restaurants in the area.
The group is also working with the restaurant’s director of operations, Myles Gallagher.
The new full-service restaurant marks Proper House Group and Alvarez’s third foray into a mixed-use district, joining Gallito Taqueria and Dang Dude that opened at Sparkman Wharf earlier this year.
In addition to Rooster & the Till, Proper House Group restaurants include Nebraska Mini Mart in Seminole Heights and Gallito Taqueria in The Joinery.
“As a partner of SPP, there are currently two concepts at Sparkman Wharf, and it is very humbling for us to be able to implement Ash at Water Street Tampa,” said Alvarez. “We look forward to sharing with other restaurants in the area and can’t wait to be a part of our special events in the city. Our guests can look forward to experiencing the same creative passion that makes Rooster & the Till such a special place in Seminole Heights. “

The restaurant’s name references the ash tree, a symbol of creative expression, productivity, strength and longevity, and shares the same name with the SPP residential building where the restaurant is located.
Proper House Group is collaborating with Houston, Texas-based interior design studio Gin Design Group and Tampa-based graphic design studio Pep Rally Inc. to design the restaurant and brand.
Led by founder Gin Braverman, Gin Design Group created an interior with arched lighting elements that focuses on the open kitchen and a dining room adorned with a sculptural ash tree.
According to Pep Rally Inc., the logo design uses soft lines to evoke nature, mimicking branches extending upward, and arches that serve as ancient symbols of new beginnings. The warm, earthy colors in the logo reference the terrazzo and softly backlit bays in the interior design.
